How do I report someone on Tandem?
To ensure Tandem remains a safe and friendly place to learn languages, our community relies on all of us to report members who act against the Tandem Community Principles.
When should I report someone?
- If you’re speaking to a member who is not interested in learning a language but is just using Tandem to meet new people, flirt or date.
- If you experience any form of prejudice, discrimination, racism, sexism, hatred or rudeness.
- If you receive commercial offers for products or services or are spammed with Facebook links, WhatsApp groups, WeChat IDs or website addresses.
- If you get the feeling someone isn’t who they say they are or their story doesn’t add up.
- If you sense someone is phishing for personal information or is asking for money or favors.
- If you see a profile with inappropriate photos, photos of someone else or a profile photo that doesn’t show the member’s face.
How do I report someone?
There are two ways to report someone, either on the screen where you chat with them or on their profile.
To report a member from the chat with them:
- Tap the three dots button in the top right-hand corner.
- Tap “Report (name of the member).”
- Choose one of the report reasons and include as much additional information as possible.
- Finally, tap the “Report to Tandem” button to make your report.
To report someone from their profile:
- Tap the warning mark (!) in the top right-hand corner.
- Choose one of the report reasons and include as much additional information as possible.
- Finally, tap the “Report to Tandem” bottom to make your report.
In order for the community moderators to review your report as quickly as possible, please remember to attach your conversation history as evidence when making the report.
What happens when you report someone?
Our community takes reports very seriously. Community moderators review each report and if there is evidence that the member you reported acted against any of the Community Principles, they will be warned or their account will be banned. Don’t worry – the member won’t be notified that you reported them! It might be that the community moderators reach out to you directly if they need additional information to resolve the report.
For more information, please take a look at the Tandem Community Principles and Terms of Service. It is hugely important that our community remains a safe environment where members feel empowered to learn languages together. Thanks for helping to keep Tandem a great place to practice languages!
