About Tandem
Launched in 2015 and with main offices in Berlin, Tandem is the app that connects language learners around the globe. More than 30 million members are currently using the platform, which enables individuals to connect and learn new languages via text, audio, and video chat. More than 300 languages are currently available, including fictional and sign languages.
Tandem was founded by Arnd Aschentrup, Tobias Dickmeis, and Dr. Matthias Kleimann. The company is backed by prominent European investors such as Brighteye Ventures, GPS Ventures, Hannover Beteiligungsfonds, Rubylight Limited, Trind Ventures and Atlantic Labs. Tandem is available for free on iOS, Android, and the Web.

How many languages are supported on Tandem?
There are currently 300 languages available for exchange on the app, from common choices like English, Spanish and French to Mongolian, Welsh, 20 different sign languages and 20 indigenous languages. Tandem also supports 6 fictional languages, including Dothraki and Mandalorian, as well as 5 constructed languages, such as Esperanto and Ido.
When was Tandem launched?
Tandem launched on iOS in February 2015 by Arnd Aschentrup Tobias Dickmeis, and Dr. Matthias Kleimann. The Android launch was in September 2016.
How many people work for Tandem?
Tandem is an international team of 28 permanent staff based at the HQ in Berlin, speaking a total of 22 languages between them.
