How to access DeutschConnect and redeem your code

1 Get your DeutschConnect flyer or digital invite code

To use DeutschConnect, you need a flyer provided by your teacher or a digital invite code.

The flyer contains:

A unique, single use code
A QR code

If you saw a DeutschConnect poster at your school but did not receive a flyer, ask your teacher directly. They will provide you with one.

2 Redeem your code

With the flyer:

Scan the QR code on the flyer using your phone or any device. You'll be redirected to a website automatically.
Enter the code.
Click "Redeem".

With the digital invite code:

Open https://invite.tandem.net, enter your code and click "Redeem".
Or click on the following invite code link directly: https://invite.tandem.net/TAN-SG-078R

You can redeem the code in a desktop or mobile browser.

3 Log in or create a Tandem account

After clicking Redeem, you will be asked if you already have a Tandem account.

If you already used Tandem before

If you are new to Tandem

Fill in your basic profile information:

First name, Last name, Date of birth, Gender, Email address and Password

In both cases, you will also be asked:

Your citizenship
Whether you are currently based in Germany

4 Download the Tandem app and complete onboarding

Download the Tandem app from the App Store or the Play Store
Log in using your credentials
Complete the onboarding process in the app

Once onboarding is finished, your benefits will be unlocked.

5 Enjoy your DeutschConnect benefits

After completing onboarding, you will get:

Immediate access to DeutschConnect Parties
Full access to Tandem Pro for three months

If you already had a Tandem account, you can return to the app after redeeming the code and start using your benefits right away.

6 Access DeutschConnect Parties in the app

Open the Tandem app
Tap the Social tab at the bottom
Go to Language Parties

When a DeutschConnect Party is live, it will appear at the top of the list.

DeutschConnect Parties are live audio rooms led by certified tutors. Topics include German language learning, everyday life in Germany, administrative topics, and common student challenges.

7 Check Party availability

DeutschConnect Parties are usually scheduled a few days in advance. You can check the schedule in the app and join the session that fits you best. There’s no need to register for a DeutschConnect Party. Just show up at the event when it goes live at the date and time indicated.

If you do not see any DeutschConnect Parties, it means no live session is happening at that moment.

If you still want to practice German:

Make sure German is selected at the top
Join any available German Language Party to listen or participate

Troubleshooting and important notes

If your benefits are not showing

Fully close the app and reopen it

If needed, restart your phone

If the issue continues, contact: support-deutschconnect@tandem.net

If your code is invalid

Double check that the code was entered correctly

Make sure there are no typing mistakes

If your access is temporarily locked, you will need to wait before trying again. This happens after too many invalid attempts.

If the code has expired, the benefits attached to it are no longer available.

Important Information

Each code is single use and can only be redeemed once
There is no deadline to redeem the code
Onboarding must be completed to access Tandem and DeutschConnect
Existing Tandem Pro users can still redeem a code to access DeutschConnect Parties
